The Rise of Communism

The Problems that arose during the Wars
After gaining independence in 1912 Albania consistenetly suffered through multiple economic and social crises, remaining in a state of almost constant turmoil. In 1941 Albania came under the rule of Italy and the Mussolini regime where he invaded the country and established the Albanian Fascist Party. Soon after this Mussolini's efforts failed because of the National Liberation War of the Albanian people where the citizens of Albania fought against both Italy and Germany for their liberation. It was after this that the uprising of communism began to take a hold upon the government with the establishment of the Albanian Communist Party. With the election of the new communist leader Enver Hoxha, Albania began to utlize the ideals of Stalin as Hoxha became allies with the Soviet Union. It was during this time Albania saw economic growth for the first time in years, but it was under the price of having the restrictions of the Soviet Union upon them.
